McMichael Competition

I have finally dried off and can sit down to write about the Pride of Morehead band and our experience at the Phoenix Festival of Bands today.  Due to the rain, all bands performed indoors in the gym.  There was no marching.  There were no props.  There were no special effects.   It was, quite frankly, chaotic and confusing at times!  However, even under these circumstances, the Pride of Morehead band received the Grand Champion trophy in Class A/AA!  They were first place overall in Class AA.  They also received 1st place Drum Major, 1st place Percussion, 1st place in General Effect, 1st place in Music Performance, and 2nd place Color Guard.  The new students now understand why they have been working so hard and so long since August; the older students know that while today was wonderful and a great way to start the competition season, there is much work to be done.
The parents and boosters did their usual fabulous job helping the band to be where they were supposed to be, dressed in their uniforms and with their instruments, in spite of the elements and extenuating circumstances.  The hospitality committee did a great job serving a much-appreciated meal after our performance, and the uniform committee did an excellent job protecting our new uniforms.  Our fantastic props will have to wait - something to look forward to next week!
So the marching season begins, with a spectacular start!  We have North Lincoln next week, then our own competition the next week, then......well, one at a time.  Congratulations on a job well done today - the Pride of Morehead has not missed a step since last season and we're off to a great start!
With much Pride,
Lisa Harris
